Obama has been president for almost 6 months now, and already the broken promises are piling up. As a Senator, he was ranked as the most liberal member of Congress. Hillary Clinton even called him too liberal to be president. Realizing that Hillary was correct, he ran his campaign on conservative principles. He had to hide his true identity; and he did so by making promises that were not in line with his beliefs. Here are a couple that were broken with the cap and trade bill passed by the House:
Lie # 1:
President Obama promised during his campaign for president that he would make government open and transparent.

Why this is a lie:
The most recent cap and trade bill (or cap and tax bill as some people call it) passed by the House exposes his blatant carelessness with the promises he made to the American people. He must think we easily forget or that we are stupid. The 1300 page bill was not even written when it was voted on. A 300 page amendment was put through on the bill at 3:09 am the day the vote was cast, making it impossible to read. Obama lied to us. Open and transparent government? Nope.
Lie # 2:
President Obama promised that anyone making less than $250,000 would not see a single dime increase in taxes.
Video:
Why this is a lie:
The cap and trade bill effectively is a tax. It is a tax on everything we buy, since it taxes energy and everything produced requires energy in order to be developed, produced and shipped. So prices of everyday things will go up. And so will our utility bill. According to Obama’s own budget director, Peter Orszag, the average household will see a $1300 increase in their yearly annual utility bill. (Article here)
Obama also has signed a law that puts a large increase in tobacco taxes. This tax affects the poor, who are more likely to smoke than the rich. It raises the tax 62 cents per pack of cigarettes, to $1.01. Not a single dime increase in taxes? Sadly, many people believed him.
Our President of the United States has admitted that he cannot be trusted with his word. He warned us of that before he even took the Oath of Office:
“I want to be realistic here, not everything that we talked about during the campaign are we going to be able to do on the pace we had hoped,” Obama said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week”, on 1/12/2009. “Everybody’s going to have to give.”
